Kate recently released her first studio EP,
True North!
The CD comes in a very nice cardboard case.
There are 4 tracks on the EP:
1. Hurricane
2. Tiny Home
3. True North
4. Wayfaring Woman
5. Young Heroes
If you've had a chance to watch any of her online shows, you'll be familiar with at least a few of these original songs.
The opening track, Hurricane was released as a single recently (coincidentally, it was around the same time as Harvey struck, which made it a tiny bit awkward to promote for a while). I don't want to give away too much, but the hurricane is symbolic and you don't want to mess with one
It's a fun song.
Mary Bee sings backing vocals on Wayfaring Woman and Tiny Home. Kate does a bit of her own backing vocals as well. I believe Kate's harmonizer also gets used in a few places.
My two favourite tracks were Wayfaring Woman and Young Heroes. The backing does a good job of complimenting Kate. It's exceptionally effective in those two songs. Those songs also do the best job of showing off Kate's incredibly lovely voice. Young Heroes has a deeply soothing and ethereal sound.
The album has an overall country feel, but there's quite a bit of variety of sounds packed into the EP. The ukulele adds a bit of a warm and uplifting tropical feel. True North is in 6/8 time and has Celtic undertones. The song almost seems to dance along.
I enjoyed the lyrics and the tunes are catchy. My favourite part of the album, though, was Kate's voice. It's warm and absolutely gorgeous! Personally, I think it has the perfect amount of vibrato.
Kate is such a wonderful singer. I wouldn't know Kate if it wasn't for Chloë and I can't ever thank her enough for performing with Kate last year.
I really enjoyed Kate's debut EP!
I hope you'll have a chance to check it out too and support this amazing artist. <3
